Timings for the Three Peaks Challenge
So how long should it take to climb each mountain on the Three Peaks Challenge and what should the schedule be in order to complete the challenge in 24 hours?
Timings For Each Mountain
You should aim to climb the three mountains in the following times:
- Ben Nevis - 5 Hours
- Scafell Pike - 5 Hours
- Snowdon - 4 Hours
To the above ascent times add approximately 10 hours of driving (within the speed limits) and this will give you your total time for the challenge.
Schedule
This is the guideline schedule most often used by participants of the challenge. Please note all times are approximate.
- 5pm - The Start of the Challenge - Begin Climbing Ben Nevis
- 8pm - Reach the Ben Nevis Summit
- 10pm - Finish Ben Nevis and Start the Drive to Scafell Pike (7 Hour Drive)
- 5am - Arrive at Scafell Pike and Begin Ascent
- 8am - Reach the Scafell Pike Summit
- 10am - Finish Scafell Pike and Start the Drive to Snowdon (3 Hour Drive)
- 1pm - Arrive at Snowdon and Begin Ascent
- 3pm - Reach the Snowdon Summit
- 5pm - Return to the Base of Snowdon to Complete the Challenge
The times above are a guideline only, in reality participants usually complete the challenge quicker providing there is no traffic between mountains.
